Photoshop is sweet. The first image is a graphite drawing that I did of the character. I scanned that into photoshop and used it as a guide for the painting. I really enjoyed this process. Thanks to Jason Newhouse for handing out such a rad assignment.Matthew Robertsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16555377005168446673noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2496091506937196044.post-36112573066585039802008-10-15T15:40:00.000-07:002008-10-15T22:16:38.002-07:00Master Copy<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_wboMke9oap4/SPZznXxmfBI/AAAAAAAAAB4/94xmnTHnlOM/s1600-h/mastercopy.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_wboMke9oap4/SPZznXxmfBI/AAAAAAAAAB4/94xmnTHnlOM/s400/mastercopy.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257516735235783698" /></a><br />Here's my attempt at replicating Sorolla's 'Boy with Ball' for Jason Bowen's figure painting course. More of an interpretation than a copy, really. In true beginner fashion I used two photo references that looked nothing like one another and wound up with a painting that looks a lot different than the original. Nice! I've found that when working with oil I spend at least two thirds of my time correcting mistakes in color and paint application. As much as I struggle with oil, I think that its a wonderful medium and I'm looking forward to the next project.Matthew Robertsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16555377005168446673noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2496091506937196044.post-36132428084905824402008-10-15T15:24:00.000-07:002008-10-15T22:12:42.468-07:00Dos hombres<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_wboMke9oap4/SPZwKhVIkvI/AAAAAAAAABw/3CONsiD9rMU/s1600-h/doubleme.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_wboMke9oap4/SPZwKhVIkvI/AAAAAAAAABw/3CONsiD9rMU/s400/doubleme.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257512941049647858" /></a><br />Here's an assignment I did for my intermediate anatomy class. Not entirely happy with the face or the left foot, will put more work into it. I think that the drawing measures just about 40" X 30". I have a roll of 40" Strathmore drawing paper and a huge masonite board which I tape the paper to. The physical aspect of working with charcoal on this scale is a lot of fun, it becomes almost like a contact sport.Matthew Robertsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16555377005168446673noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2496091506937196044.post-78647621455795064302008-07-06T08:23:00.000-07:002008-10-06T23:39:55.682-07:00<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(85, 26, 139); text-decoration: underline;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_wboMke9oap4/SHDjkxZ8AKI/AAAAAAAAAAU/Ba__zKpBJdc/s1600-h/arm.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">Sunday, July 6, 2008</span></a></span><div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">My First Post</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:22px;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:22px;">Here's an arm study I did for James Xavier Barbour's Intermediate Figure Drawing class.
