Happy Halloween

Wow, I had a lot of fun with this one.  Photoshop is sweet.  The first image is a graphite drawing that I did of the character.  I scanned that into photoshop and used it as a guide for the painting.  I really enjoyed this process.  Thanks to Jason Newhouse for handing out such a rad assignment.

Master Copy

Here's my attempt at replicating Sorolla's 'Boy with Ball' for Jason Bowen's figure painting course.  More of an interpretation than a copy, really.  In true beginner fashion I used two photo references that looked nothing like one another and wound up with a painting that looks a lot different than the original.  Nice!  I've found that when working with oil I spend at least two thirds of my time correcting mistakes in color and paint application.  As much as I struggle with oil, I think that its a wonderful medium and I'm looking forward to the next project.

Dos hombres

Here's an assignment I did for my intermediate anatomy class.  Not entirely happy with the face or the left foot, will put more work into it.  I think that the drawing measures just about 40" X 30".  I have a roll of 40" Strathmore drawing paper and a huge masonite board which I tape the paper to.  The physical aspect of working with charcoal on this scale is a lot of fun, it becomes almost like a contact sport.
